Disaster: Communications during and after a disaster! Are you ready?

Lessons learned from Katrina have shown us we are not ready for a disaster in Washington State, either from an immediate survival standpoint, or from a evacuee standpoint.  This FREE brown bag Webinar will give you hands on solutions and communications tools to get you or your clients/students prepared. This website will be on-line for and future trainings on Communications needed before a disaster strikes.

Presenters:

2. Ronda Evans - RECA Foundation  Purpose of this Webinar   Use a webinar to communicate  and train  your students or clients.

B.  Making sure that everyone has access to technology, Bridging the Digital Divide. Imagine the flu epidemic hitting the United States, and the experts want you to stay at home to take care of the sick, in order to elevate spreading. A webinar could easily be used to train people how to take care of their own.  Here are some other tools to use to get your community prepared.

8.  Ronda Evans RECA Foundation: Technology was the only thing that worked after Katrina and agencies learned that no one agency could handle the problem. Technology was used to:
Sign up for FEMA: Techies established wireless mesh networks and used laptops to help people sign up and find their families. Phones did not work, and neither did 911 or 211 crisis, information and referral telephone numbers.
Find missing persons
: Over 50 websites were developed to find missing persons, and a RSS feed was used to feed these sites into one site. People looking for missing people only had to check one website.
Case manage over 81,000 Katrina evacuees.
See the National CAN.org on-line Case Management System. First time in history that major agencies, United Way, FEMA, Red Cross, Salvation Army and others shared client information, powered by Tapestry/VisionLink.
On-LIne Community Resources www.4people.org has been using Tapestry/VisionLink since 1998 and has become the premier website to find community resources in 19 counties in Eastern Washington.
4People Case Management System is being used by Health Care Providers to reduce the number of uninsured families, and by Homeless Coalitions to reduce the number of homeless, and stand alone agencies to manage their clients.
4People On-Line Shelter Tracking Tool: As part of the Tapestry system, all caseworkers that have signed up on the system and signed releases get access to posting and finding shelter.  Imagine having the ability to find housing, rooms for over 100,000 people in less than a couple of days.
